INTERVIEW
You started writing at the age of twelve. Can you tell us about your bi-weekly soap opera, “Yesterday’s Desire? As a child, my mother and grandmother watched Days Of Our Lives, so I watched it too. I was obsessed with Bo & Hope! It inspired me to create my own characters, and forge the journey of their lives through an episodic structure. So in other words, I was a huge soap opera dork. 🙂
Take us through a day in your life: I write downstairs in my office, on a green sofa with my Persian cat snuggled at my feet. My babysitter is upstairs with my 9-month-old, so whenever I start missing him, I can pop up for a quick hug and kiss. It’s the best of both worlds.
What other author(s) do you admire? I love the period-piece thriller novels by Tasha Alexander. They’re sweeping and beautiful, yet full of delicious intrigue.
Coffee or tea? I like tea with milk and sugar, so I guess I’d make a good Brit.
What is you favorite part of the writing/editing/publishing process? It’s fun to create characters and then go on their journeys with them. They almost take on a life of their own. It’s a really neat experience.
Hard/paperback or eBooks? Definitely real books. I’m not going to say: “I love the smell of books” (because I think that’s a cliché), but I do love turning actual pages and saving the page with a bookmark.
What is your favorite snack when writing? Chocolate chips!
How did you celebrate your first book being published? With way, way too much wine. And after the wine, I ate my favorite thing in the world: frozen pizza. The whole thing. It was a dream-come-true, so it called for a little over-indulgence.
What is your favorite word? Shampoo.
One thing that people would be surprised to know about you is…? I’m very tall – almost six feet.
What is the best advice you’ve been given? “When you get very angry at your husband, always remember that you love him.” This advice has actually saved me many times from saying things I’d regret later!
Can you tell us about any of your upcoming projects? My first novel, Bicoastal Babe, is being developed for a television show on the CW network, with Katherine Heigl producing. So I’m working on a sequel to that book, along with a brand new novel.
