“A Season to Lie” by Emily Littlejohn
Blurb: Last year’s Inherit the Bones sent shockwaves across the crime fiction genre. Now author Emily Littlejohn returns with her passionate, stalwart Colorado detective in A SEASON TO LIE (Minotaur Books; on sale November 14, 2017; $25.99).
Detective Gemma Monroe is back in the game after returning from maternity leave. And what a first day back: a blizzard is blowing into her idyllic Colorado ski town, and while Gemma hopes for a quiet, warm evening in, she knows it will mean plenty of calls out for snow-related accidents. But when an anonymous caller reports seeing a lurker at the local high school, Gemma gets far more than she bargained for. Behind the school building, half covered in a drift of snow, lies the gruesomely murdered body of a world-famous author—with a note stuffed in his mouth threatening that “This is only the beginning…”
Now Gemma is knee deep in a high profile investigation; working against the clock with the threat of a possible serial killer on the loose.

– Cleveland Plain-Dealer on Inherit the Bones
“Engrossing…Littlejohn effectively captures the tensions of a community struggling with its demons while seeking to attract tourist dollars, and Gemma—six-months pregnant with her first child, uncertain of the future with her partner, and paired with a charming bad-boy cop she doesn’t trust—is a compelling lead.” – Publishers Weekly on Inherit the Bones
“Small town Colorado police detective Gemma Monroe is a human and fallible heroine I can’t wait to meet again, and Littlejohn’s prose is lyrical and gripping —the book is a sure bet for one of the finest debut novels of the year.” – Deborah Crombie
“If you read only one debut mystery this year, make it this one. Inherit the Bones is that good. Compelling writing, a stunning setting in a Colorado ski town, a plot that twists with surprises, and a police deputy who happens to be six-months pregnant—I loved all of it.”
– Margaret Coel, author of The Man Who Fell From the Sky
