Dr. Seuss Quotes

March 5, 2012 1 Comment

It’s Monday!  Why most people treat this day as the worst day of the week, I decided to make it a good one, and hopefully inspire you.

This past Friday, Dr. Seuss would have been 108.  When I was younger, I was never a huge fan of the beloved author (my preferred reads were Danielle Steel), but as I’ve aged, I’ve come to admire the Dr., who used the pseudonyms of Theo LeSieg, Rosetta Stone, and Theophrastus Seuss.  (Even Dr. Seuss was a pseudonym; His real name was Theodor Seuss Geisel).  For more information on Dr. Seuss, click HERE and HERE.

On Friday night, my husband and I went to dinner and were talking about my work and somehow we got on the topic of Dr. Seuss.  We both had a lot of books by Dr. S, and have kept them because they are classics.  My DH (dear husband) then pulled out his phone and sent me the picture on the left that he had seen earlier that day.

After reading the “30 Dr. Seuss Quotes that Can Change Your Life,” I was inspired not only to use these quotes of my way of life, but as a work motto too.  If I’m having a bad day and/or old Mr. Writer’s Block decides to come for a visit, or I get some bad news from publisher, maybe reading these quotes will inspire me to continue and not give up on anything I’m working on.

Of all of these quotes, what is/are your favorite/favorites?

Happy Monday, y’all!

Children’s Books

February 28, 2012 Leave a Comment

I love books.  All types of books.  When I was younger and lived in my childhood home, my brother’s room was full of bookshelves, and I was jealous of his room.  Yes, I had the nice and “pretty” room, but I wanted the ceiling to roof room.  How awesome was that?!

Anyway, as some of you know, I’ve been helping to plan a baby shower, and one of the gifts I gave were books.  I think that it’s very important for each and every child to say that they’ve held a book.  With modern technology growing, I still think that infants, babies, and toddlers need the time that mommy and/or daddy reads to them with an actual and physical book.  While I was in the process of deciding which book to get for this precious baby, I wanted them all to be special, sweet, and family like.  These books don’t exist anymore.  What happened to the (types of ) books like  “The Runaway Bunny,” “The Velveteen Rabbit,” any Golden Book, and of course, the Aesop’s Fables (which I had to have help to find)?  I’m about to be 31, so maybe for me those books are all “classics,” but in the stores they seem very obsolete.  Is that sad to anyone?  It is to me.

This leads me to my point of this blog.  When I was a kid, I loved bedtime the most because my mom would always read a book to me and my brother – sometimes two a night, one for him and one for me.  One of my favorite reads that she read was any book that the Berenstain Bears created.  I was saddened tonight when I found out that the Co-Creator of Stan and Jan Berenstain had passed.  Read THIS for more information on the death of one of the greatest children’s author – ever!  What was your favorite Berenstain Bear book?
