BOOK REVIEW: “The Last Dance”

March 27, 2019 1 Comment

“The Last Dance” by Aimee Brown

Blurb:

Can you truly forgive and forget?

Ambri and Henry have been best friends forever. They’ve been through the highs and lows of life with each other by their sides. The worst? When Henry’s wife, and Ambri’s sister, died. Together, they can face it all. Until one night destroys everything.

Two years after he stepped out of it Henry walks back into Ambri’s life and she’s more than a little shocked. But as old friends fall into even older habits they need to decide whether they can forget the past and embrace their future.

My Review: After reading Aimee Brown’s first book, “The Lucky Dress,” I knew I would love “The Last Dance,” so when I was given the chance to receive an ARC I jumped at the chance.

It’s known that I’m a huge fan of friends-to-lovers romances, and this book did not disappoint. Right from the start, it was easy to see the connection Ambri and Henry shared, even with the one person who still stands between them–someone they both loved.

There were parts that were heartbreaking and made me cry, the adorable banter that made me chuckle, and the ending was exactly as I hoped it would–and in a cute way, too, (sorry, no spoilers).

As for Aimee’s writing, like with her first book, not only was I instantly drawn to the characters, but this story, too. Her books will make you lose track of time, and the characters will become your friends who you don’t want to stop spending time with.

If you’re looking for a sweet summer read, one that will give you all the feels of finally taking that leap with the one who’s been by your side the whole time, then this is the book for you.

I give “The Last Dance” 5 stars!

BOOK REVIEW: “Tequila Tequila”

December 19, 2018 1 Comment

Tequila Tequila by Emma Hart

Blurb:

TEQUILA + YOUR BEST FRIEND + YOUR BEDROOM = UM. WHOOPSIE?

Don’t sleep with your best friend.
Take it from me. I did it. And it was awful.
I-wish-the-tequila-made-me-forget kind of bad.
The problem is, Luke has forgotten. He swears that he can’t remember a thing about that night beyond the trays of tequila shots being set on the tables.
Except I can’t forget. I can’t forget how good his hands felt until I fell over and hit my hip on the dresser, and I sure as hell can’t forget the entire two minutes of tap-tap-squirt.
Awkward. Embarrassing. And the new subject of a couple of dirty lucid dreams.
But I have no intention of telling him what we did. Nothing good comes from telling your best friend he’s the worst guy you’ve ever slept with.
Which makes the tequila on my birthday a very, very bad idea…

My Review: I’ve been in a reading slump lately, so as a fan of friends-to-lovers books and being the tequila lover that I am, I thought picking up this book would be a fun read…and it did not disappoint.

Right from the start, Aspen and Luke not only have chemistry in their friendship but in a romantic way, too. Throughout the book, it was fun to see how both of them handled knowing what the other thought they didn’t. Though, when the secret came out, I was relieved that it didn’t ruin anything (no spoilers). At times, their quirky banter reminded me of an old married couple, especially when dealing with Luke’s large family being part of the story, especially Luke’s grandmother.

“Tequila Tequila” was my first book by Emma Hart, and it’s not going to be my last, (I’m currently reading her other book, “Best Served Cold”). If you want a quick and cute friends-to-lovers read, then I would recommend this book to you. (It would be a great read over the holiday season, too!)

I give “Tequila Tequila” 4.5 stars!

I wish someone would’ve warned me about the dangers of falling in love with your best friend.
I was no stranger to covering up my problems with meaningless sex and alcohol.
When Brea asked me for one night to help her forget, I craved being the man she needed.
Just sex.
No commitment.
Then she begged me to promise her nothing would change between us. I couldn’t bring myself to lie to her.
One night.
One broken promise.
I will never forget the night I fell in love with my best friend, and now nothing will ever be the same.

Where I Found You (Heart’s Compass #1)

How do you protect your heart?
Build a wall.
Lock it away.
Let no one in.
Everyone should have a childhood worth remembering. Only I remember mine for all the wrong reasons. Starting over in a new town is hard enough. When you are running from your past, it doesn’t get any easier.
I was ready to say goodbye to the burdens I have carried. The pain I’ve experienced is more than anyone should have to face.
Then I met him…
He takes my breath away. I can’t ignore the way he makes me feel. I know he has the power to destroy me.
And that’s what scares me the most

“Enticing Elle” by Erin Cawood

Blurb: The feel good, friends to lovers office romance taking readers by surprise!

Author Erin Cawood returns with a sexy stand-alone romance novel with a hot alpha male looking for Mrs. Right, and a strong willed heroine determined to avoid a; finding, b; marrying, and c; living happily ever after with Mr. Right.

Enticing Elle is a feel good friends to lovers office romance for fans of contemporary women’s fiction and falling in love with the last person you’d expect when you’d least expect it.

***

Actions speak louder than words.

Elle Richards never makes a mistake at work. She raised her game the moment the boss’s grandson tempted her into an ill-fated office romance. She had to combat the rumors she was sleeping her way up the corporate ladder somehow. These days, as Head of Corporate Services, Elle’s revered for her ability to achieve impeccable standards. But when it comes to love, her life’s been one train wreck after the other from the moment she gave her virginity to the wrong boy and ended up pregnant at fifteen.

When her new boss, Adam Lacey, disappears, Elle ends up in a jealousy-fuelled argument with his boss–a.k.a. her ex–right before she implicates Adam in an affair and destroys his relationship with his girlfriend. And just when Elle thinks her day can’t get any worse she ends up in the most romantic lip lock she’s ever had in her life… with Adam!

Suddenly every starry-eyed mistake she’s ever made in love is biting Elle on the ass, forcing her to question why she’d risk her reputation, career and heart on a man known whose girlfriends only last six weeks. She wouldn’t. So why does Elle challenge him to prove they have more than a six-week shelf life when she already knows his actions speak far louder than any promise he could ever make?

***

This is so much more than a romance, it is friendship, trust, heartbreak, humor, parenting, and LIFE…all in a beautifully touching, sometimes funny, at times heartbreaking, amazing book. Erin knocks it out of the park, again, with Enticing Elle! Elle and Adam are so d*mn perfectly imperfect they sear through the ink right into your heart… ~ MParks – Amazon Reviewer

“The Broken Road” by Melissa Huie

Blurb: Twenty-six-year-old Megan Connors’s life is not going in the direction she thought it would. With her love life in the dumps, she doesn’t think it could get any worse until her long-time crush, Shane asks to move in. After all, he has no clue that she’s been in love with him for the past ten years. But fate has a way of turning things around.

As their relationship goes from “just friends” to lovers, life takes a turn for the unexpected. Shane isn’t the person that Megan once fell in love with all those years ago. Shane has a past; deadly secrets that are only revealed once the FBI knocks on Megan’s door.

Secrets, tragedy, and deceit force Shane—and Megan—to make choices that will change their lives forever. Once Megan learns the truth, will she still want to be with Shane? Or will someone else be at the end of her broken road?

The Broken Road contains mature themes, heart-pounding action, edge-of-your-seat suspense, graphic violence and steamy romance, with a side of strong language, drug dealing, and a lot of sarcastic humor.

EXCERPT

“Yeah, baby. I knew you’d remember me at some point. I didn’t forget you,” he said in a surly tone. He was obviously drunk and tried to run his hand down my arm. I pulled away.

“Yeah. Well, nice talking to you.” I turned my back to him and waited for Fallon to get my drink.

“Don’t turn away,” he said, touching my arm “You’re here, I’m here; let’s dance for a while and see how well you remember me.”

I yanked my arm back. “No thanks. And don’t touch me. I’m here with someone, not you.”

Dominic grabbed my arm roughly. His brown eyes blazed. I could tell he was not used to hearing the word no. “You don’t need to act like that. Come on baby. Let’s dance.”

I could see Fallon wave to someone, but I couldn’t see who. God, I didn’t want to cause a scene and cause security to come over. I didn’t need anyone to fight my battles, I could fight them myself. I looked down at his sleazy hand on my arm and balled up my fists.

“Listen, asshole, if you don’t get your hand off me, I’m going to break it,” I warned.

Dominic just laughed and let go. “If you’re here with someone, where is he? Huh?”

“Hey, baby, did you miss me?” said a voice behind me. A pair of muscular tattooed arms wrapped around my waist. I knew that voice. Shane. I breathed a sigh of relief. I looked up at him. His beautiful eyes were hard and his jaw was clenched. His body was coiled in anger. Shane was ready to drop this clown to the floor. I played the role and stood up on my toes to kiss his jaw line. I could feel a little quiver in his body as he relaxed his stance slightly.

“Hey, sweetie. Of course I did,” I said with a smug smile on my lips.

“What’s up, Dominic?” Shane said with a nod, his tone undeniably cold. Shane is a gentle man, but he is also a protector. He never fought unless it was necessary and when he did fight, he rarely lost.

“Shane. Sorry man, I didn’t realize she was with you,” Dominic said, backing off slightly.

Shane ignored him and loudly whispered, “Let’s dance.” Taking my hand, he led me to the dance floor. I turned and saw Fallon watching us with anticipation. “Thanks,” I mouthed, as Shane pulled me away. She just grinned. She knew how close Shane came to kicking Dominic’s ass.

My favorite Usher song came on and Shane pulled me close. With my body tingling from his touch, my hopes soared. But I felt the need to give him an out, just in case. “Thanks for helping me, but I could have handled him. I think you made your point. You don’t have to dance with me if you don’t want to.”

Shane gave me a mischievous grin. “We can’t let Dominic see you dancing alone can we? What, you don’t want to dance with me?”

I had to smile. “Oh shut up, you fool.”

He put his hands on my hips, and pulled me closer. Shane swayed his body in time with mine, matching me step to step. We fit perfectly. I was captivated by how well our bodies seem to fuse together. I threw my arm around his neck as he held me. We were so close air couldn’t have found a space between us. Electric sparks shot straight to my toes and I had to remember to breathe. I looked up at him; his eyes were dark and inviting. I don’t know if it was the loneliness of being single or the heat of the moment, but I put my other arm around his neck and tentatively touched my lips to his. I cannot believe I just did that. My cheeks flamed with embarrassment.

“Sorry,” I stammered.

Shane’s response stole what little breath I had left. He crushed his lips hungrily to mine. Those electric sparks were nothing compared to what I felt then. Fire broke out all over my body, the sensation shot right through me to a place that had been idle for far too long—my heart (and some place lower). His tongue gently caressed mine, and I sighed in ecstasy. Shane broke the kiss off first; there was fire in his eyes. “Damn, Megan,” he muttered, holding me tight. Oh my god, what did I do? I can’t believe we kissed!

“Let’s get out of here while we’re still standing,” he growled, pulling me off the dance floor.
