We stand across the room from each other. Lane with a huge smirk plastered across his handsome face. I rub my chin, wondering how I can bring down this brick shithouse. I used the only trick I had in my bag of moves. What to do, what to do?
“Are you ready to charge at me again, or are you going to let me show you how to do this properly?”
I match his smirk. “Oh, you’re going down, doll face.”
“Doll face? Really?” His eyebrows hitch.
“It’s what I said, isn’t it?” I flip him the bird, which causes him to laugh once more.
“Okay, then it’s your funeral,” he teases.
“Or yours.”
“If you say so.”
“I do say so.”
“Well, come on then. I’m getting bored waiting.” He fake yawns, patting his hand in front of his lips.
Him and his smart mouth.
I bend my knees then sway from side to side. Go for his throat. That’s what I need to do.
“Are you coming or what?” He winks.
I need to show him I’m in control. I push my shoulders back and bounce on the balls of my feet until I take off at full pace towards him, bending my right arm and leaning in with my elbow.
Lane’s hands take my legs, and he flips me upside down. Mothertrucker. I scramble against his strength, and flick my legs around his neck, crossing my feet over each other behind his head, my head bouncing by his knees.
“Wrong move again,” he says. I feel his breath between my legs.
No shit!
I dangle, like a dead weight, until I cackle and squeeze my thighs as hard as I can around his neck.
Death by thigh strangulation. It could happen.
“Stop!” he shouts.
It’s working. I’m winning … until I’m not.

Drew

“Holy shit, you’re really doing this adult thing, aren’t you?” Finn clinks his shot glass with mine and sticky amber liquid spills over the sides onto my fingers.

Sugary caramel flavors invade my senses as I bring the glass to my lips, and the Canadian whiskey slides smoothly down my throat, heat nipping at my gut.

“You know you’re old when you buy property and shit, right?” He licks his upper lip. “First a condo, and now a cottage. Damn, just talking about all that responsibility makes me queasy.”

Ken snickers at my side, and despite Finn’s intention, I accept his jab as praise. Praise for a dream come true. They can take all the pot shots they want, I have no regrets.

“You’ve got to grow up sometime. A cottage isn’t exactly a burden.” A wide, goofy grin steals my face.

Pretty soon their sorry asses will be begging to crash at my cottage from the Victoria Day long weekend in May—also referred to as May two-four, which marks the beginning of cottage season, blackflies, and summer—to Thanksgiving. Who’ll be laughing then?

Friday night with the guys comes with lots of ribbing, lots of laughing, and lots of cold ones. Tonight’s no different, except we’re celebrating more than the end of the work week. We’re celebrating my new cottage in Muskoka. Well, it’s not new, rather old actually. A fixer-upper that cost a fucking fortune. But it’s mine and totally worth it.

“Nah, not ready to grow up quite yet. My mom’s pestering me about when I’m gonna propose to Cass. That’s enough stress.” He shivers mockingly but ends up looking like he’s having a seizure.

Finn Raine is a liar. I’ve known him since we were in diapers—our mothers are best friends—and Cassandra Donnelly is his high school sweetheart. Nothing about marrying her causes him undue stress.

“And when are you gonna pop the question?” Ken, another buddy from our high school days, asks about what most would call the ultimate commitment—marriage.

“Not any time soon.”

Full of shit. He’s counting the days, literally, until Cass graduates with her Ph.D. to get down on his bended knee. He already has the ring.

Cupping my mouth with my hand, I fake-cough, “Bullshit,” and elbow him in the ribs.

“Shut it.” Finn shoves my arm. “What’s that you said? Another round on you?”
Tipping my head back, I laugh hard, my insides heating from our usual spirited banter, the top shelf liquor, or both.

“You’re in luck. I’m in a good mood. One more round on me, asshole.”

The guys whoop and whistle and bang their fists on the bar. That gets the attention of not only the bartender but half the room. Heads spin toward the ruckus, including a cute blonde a few seats down from us.

She licks her lips, her hunger growing the longer I hold her gaze. If I wanted, we’d be fucking in under thirty minutes.

I don’t.

Our beers arrive, and I take a long pull of the cold, frothy lager. Finn called it. At twenty-nine, I’m an adult, already wading through burgeoning responsibility as a criminal lawyer and the proud owner of not one but two properties. All I need now is a woman to share my life.

Like bitter February flurries in Toronto, my spine freezes, ripples of frost spreading through me. Where the hell did that thought come from?

There isn’t a woman in my life or any prospects on the horizon. Marriage is a long way off. Came close with Scarlett, my girlfriend of two years, but we split six months ago. The break was amicable and mutual.

Some days I miss her, some days I don’t, and some days I can’t make sense of what happened. Even still, if she were here right now wanting to get back together, I’m not sure that’s what I’d want.

Since then, I’ve had a couple one-night stands—more out of habit than desire. Enough to realize I’m done with meaningless hookups.

The blonde smiles again, and Finn notices, winking suggestively as if I need his approval or permission.

“I’m gonna piss, and then I’m out. Go make your move, bud.” He slaps my shoulder like a coach boosting his player before sending him onto the field.

He vacates his stool, and I ignore him, signalling the bartender to settle my bill.

“Ken, I’m gone too.” I take out my card as the bartender nears with the machine.

“Sure. I’ll see you later this week.” Ken swigs the last of his drink and scans the crowd, on the hunt. The guy thinks with his dick.

As I head out, I find Finn leaning against the wall by the entrance, with a shit-eating grin swallowing his features. The idiot was waiting for me, hoping I’d score. His eyebrows climb to his hairline at my solo exit.

“Where’s the chick?” Both shoulders rise, his hands out, palms up.

I brush past him, out the door, and into the balmy May night. He follows, bewildered. “But she wanted in your pants.”

“I’ve got to get up early tomorrow.” I’m bored with this conversation.

“What? Since when does that have anything to do with a quick fuck?”
“Not interested.” I yawn.

“The fuck?” He grabs my shoulder, twisting me to face him. “Who the fuck are you, and what did you do with Drew?”

I chuckle. This guy can be a diva. He’s been with Cass for eleven years and lives the bachelor life through Ken and me. He’s beyond dramatic if we pass up a hookup.

“I’m done with the one-night stands.” This isn’t news. We’ve had this chat.

I keep walking, but he’s rooted to the sidewalk, puzzled. My building is a block away, and I can’t get there fast enough. The insanity of my workload is finally hitting me. I’ve worked my ass off the past few weeks, knowing I’d be away for the next two.

Sleep would be an awesome way to spend the weekend, making up for the long hours I’ve been putting in, but sleep has to wait. There’s too much to do.

“You’re crazy, asshole. Get back there,” Finn orders like this is life or death. Idiot. “The blonde was hot.”

“Don’t bust my balls.” Not interested. Blondes aren’t my type.

Bold-faced lie.

Only one blonde kicks my heart rate into overdrive, twists my insides, and brings me to my knees.

Pippa Raine.

Finn’s younger sister.

Sexy spitfire and off limits.

Shit. Shit. Shit. Why did I even go there? She’s not only Finn’s sister, she’s my younger sister Paige’s best friend. She’s family.

Not to mention Finn has made it abundantly clear that if I so much as think about making a move on Pippa, he’ll chop off my nuts and feed them to me.

Ouch. My hand involuntarily slides into my pocket and adjusts my junk. All good.

“You’re fucking dumb,” Finn pants, winded from the few feet of jogging.

“Have you looked in a mirror lately?” I quip, opening the door to my building. “You crashing here, or what?”

“Nah. I’m the smart one. Cass is waiting for me. I’m getting laid tonight. Later, loser.” He pulls out his phone for an Uber.

“Whatever,” I chuckle, holding my thumb and pointer finger in the shape of an L.

“I’ll come up next weekend with Cass, and maybe my parents, Pip, or the rest of the brood will come.” He barely glances up from his phone.

Finn has three siblings: Pippa, Claire, and Tom. While I’ve known all of them their entire lives and we’re like family, only one of them is a problem. And if she shows up next weekend, I’m done for.

I sizzle with thoughts of Pippa. I’m a stick of dynamite, and she’s the flame. Ignite, blaze, combust.

That’s why I’ve stayed away.

It’s been well over a year since I’ve seen her. My avoidance was intentional. If I was going to keep my relationships with Scarlett, Finn, and my family, I had to end all contact. But now, with just a mention, I want to see her. Not a good idea.

“That’s cool, but don’t bother.” My voice is steady and uninterested, contradicting the small explosion going on in my chest. “Alec and Paige are coming, and Ken’s going to take a day or two. I’m good, thanks.”

“All right.” He’s engrossed in his phone.

The need to sleep has vanished, replaced by a wired edginess I know too well.
Pippa.

Finn had to say her name, and now I wonder what she’s been up to. I could ask Paige since they live together, but like my absence, my ignorance is deliberate.

The less I know, the better. I don’t need the temptation. She’s the girl I can’t have.
And that’s the thing, isn’t it? She’s just a girl, and seeing her now might be different. She’s most probably over me and dating. Dammit. Why’d I have to think about Pippa with another guy? Now I want to punch something.

The gym. That’s what I’ll do. I’ll unwind with exercise and exhaust myself.

Sleep does eventually come, but it’s restless with dreams of a sexy blonde bombshell with the bluest eyes, the longest legs, and the sweetest smile.

Impossible.

Best Fake Fiance, an all-new sexy and hilarious single dad romance from Roxie Noir, is available now!

rn_bestfakefiance_ebook.jpg

My life has room for exactly two women: my daughter Rusty and my best friend Charlotte — known to everyone as Charlie.

One is a feisty, tomboyish firecracker. The other is my seven-year-old. I can’t imagine life without either.

So when my ex springs a custody hearing on me, I find myself telling the judge that I’m engaged to Charlie.

The only problem? I’m not.

Time to fake an engagement.

Pretending we’re a couple will be no big deal.

We’ve been friends for years. We used to sneak cigarettes behind the bleachers. We turned cans of hairspray into flamethrowers. We got drunk on stolen malt liquor.

She’s beautiful, vivacious, spontaneous, and she loves my daughter to death. It’s the perfect answer: we fake it for a few months, then go back to our lives.

Until we touch, and sparks fly. Until I can’t take my eyes off her. Until I can’t stop thinking about what she’s got on under her coveralls.

It takes one kiss.

One touch.

One shared secret and suddenly, I’m not pretending anymore. I want her, I need her in ways I didn’t know I could.

But there’s a lifetime of friendship between us, and falling in love with Charlie could risk everything.

Excerpt:

“This is an intervention,” Eli says. “For what?” I ask. “For kissing,” Seth says, taking his place next to Eli, mimicking his stance. “Y’all are terrible kissers.” Several thoughts all trip through my brain at once. Heat flushes my face. I take a step back. “Neither of us is kissing you, Seth,” Daniel says, also crossing his arms over his chest. “Don’t speak for the lady,” Seth says, suddenly grinning. Next to me, I can feel Daniel’s whole body go rigid. “The lady’s not kissing you either,” I say before Daniel can say anything. “No one is here to kiss Seth,” Eli says, shooting him a look. “We’re here to help you kiss each other, because I’ve seen puppets kiss more convincingly than you two.” A quick flutter of anxiety moves through my chest, waving through me like wind through a wheat field. “What puppets have you been watching?” I ask, after a second. “You can find some real weird stuff on the internet,” Daniel offers. “Spoken like an expert,” says Eli. “He’s not the one who brought up puppet porn,” I say. “Apparently, you’ve been watching—” “Everyone quit talking about your perversions and focus,” Seth says, raising his voice. “No one is kissing anyone, except that you—” he points at Daniel, “are kissing her—” he points at me, “because you need people to think you’re actually engaged.” The flutters are only getting faster, stronger, a gale force wind through the wheat fields because I really do want to kiss Daniel and I really don’t want to do it in front of his brothers, presumably while they shout helpful make out tips at us. “They’re Eli’s perversions,” I say. “I’ve never even seen—” “No one is leaving this room until you stop talking about puppets fucking and start kissing,” Eli says, firmly planted in front of the door. Daniel just sighs. “Is this because of yesterday?” he asks. Despite being trapped in an attic and being told to kiss me or else, he’s somehow the calmest person here right now because of course he is. Daniel’s always the calmest person around. “Yes,” Seth says. “Obviously,” Eli confirms at the same time. “I’d be the world’s shittiest brother if I saw that travesty and didn’t do something about it,” Seth goes on. “You,” he nods at Daniel, “have somehow gotten yourself into a ridiculous situation where you need to convincingly make out with her,” he nods at me, “to keep custody of your daughter, and you,” he nods at me again, “have inexplicably agreed to this farce. I agreed to do your taxes, by the way.” “Thanks,” I say. “And by God, Daniel, I’m not letting Rusty move to Colorado with the progeny of a demon and a swamp beast, so you better shut up and kiss Charlie.” “No one kisses normally in front of cameras,” Daniel says. “Look, we kiss just fine. Yesterday there was a photographer saying something, practically everyone we knew was there—” “Is it just me, Seth, or do those sound like reasons to practice?” Eli says, turning to his brother. “Call me crazy, but maybe they should get better at kissing in public instead of just hoping it never happens again.” “I do believe you’re correct, Eli,” Seth says. The two of them are talking like they’re in an infomercial, and it might be the most irritating thing I’ve ever heard. “And since they’re not leaving this room until you and I are satisfied, they may as well get—” “Fine,” Daniel finally says, then unfurls his arms and looks over at me. “Sorry,” he says, his voice softer, gentler. “They do kind of have a point,” I say, even as my insides twist. “Yesterday wasn’t great.” Finally, Daniel half-smiles, and he smiles at me, not his dumbass brothers, runs one hand through his hair in his nervous-and-trying-not-to-show-it gesture. “It was pretty bad,” he admits. “You jammed your nose into my eye,” I say, laughing. “You bit my chin,” he teases. “You—” Eli clears his throat obnoxiously. “Come on,” Seth says, spinning a finger in the air in the universal can we get a move on gesture. I take a deep breath, turn to Daniel, quiet the flutters, and look up into his sky-blue eyes for a split second. Then we kiss.

I pulled away with a soft laugh. “We better get to the bed before I lose the ability to use my knees.”
“Lead the way.”
I rolled my eyes, grabbed his hand, and pulled him toward the bed. Turning, I sat on the edge of the bed and eyed Ryan expectantly. How did I do this again?
Ryan chuckled as he toed off his work boots. They fell to the floor with a thump. “You should see your face right now.”
“Do I look freaked? Because I feel kinda freaked. I don’t know how to do this. I mean, I’ve done this before—just not this this, ya know?”
“Hey, hey.” Ryan sat next to me on the edge of the bed. “There’s no right way or wrong way to do this. There’s no game plan or checklist or whatever. We just do whatever feels right, whatever you want.”
“Okay.” I gave a shuddering sigh as I looked into his gorgeous eyes. “Then I want you to kiss me.”
“Maybe we should—”
“No. You said whatever feels right. And it always feels right when you kiss me.” I leaned into him and his arm came around my shoulders and settled in a way that just…felt right. “Please.”
Ryan groaned. “Christ. You have no idea what it does to me when you bring out the eyes. You could ask me anything, and I’d probably do it.”
“Then kiss me already.”
He leaned toward me, his lips hovering over mine, and then he whispered, “As long as you promise to only use your powers for good.”
“No promises,” I whispered back.
Ryan’s eyes flared and he groaned. “Fuck me.”
Then his lips covered mine, and I lost the ability to think. All I could do was feel. His amazing lips. The way his hair felt in my hands because I had to hold him somewhere. The way my heart raced when he suckled on my tongue.
Minutes later I was the one tugging frantically at his clothing because I had to feel him. Everywhere.
Ryan’s laugh was husky in my ear and made me want to moan. “I think the only thing hotter than your gorgeous eyes is how eager you are right now.”
I swung my leg over his hips so I could straddle him. Looking into his eyes, I smiled wickedly.
Ryan cleared his throat unevenly. “Uh, I stand corrected. Apparently you can get way hotter.”
The power I felt in that moment… The fact that I had this man, this crazy hot guy, so worked up and just willing to do anything that I wanted? I think I could’ve come from that thought alone.
Then I pulled his shirt up and over his head.
Or maybe the view of his hard, tattooed body would send me over the edge.
I ran an appreciative hand over the art covering his chest and arms. The heart on his left pec with “family” written in script. The flamed motorcycle racing down his arm. And the muscles. Sweet baby Jesus, the muscles! He had so many muscles I couldn’t even…
He took advantage of my temporary paralysis and tugged my shirt up and over my head. A reverent expression stole across his face. “Ah, Hope. You’re just…”
He trailed off in a groan before he took my lips again in a harsh, hungry kiss.
I ached to feel those lips on my nipples. Unconsciously arching toward him, I moaned into his mouth. Finally I couldn’t take it anymore. I reached behind me to unclasp my bra but my fingers were swiftly batted away by Ryan’s. He made quick work of the clasp and then my bra was falling down my arms, baring me to Ryan’s hungry eyes.
“Christ, they’re even more gorgeous than I imagined.” He lifted a hand and cupped the underside of my left breast.
My cheeks heated with his compliment. Or the contact. I didn’t know which. I bit my lip and looked down at where his tanned, calloused fingers held my pale breast. “You’ve been thinking about my boobs for a while?”
Ryan groaned and brushed his stubbled cheek against my nipple. “All night. And occasionally when I was alone the last few months. I couldn’t get you out of my head after that first night. How you looked. That scent. The way your voice sounded.”
“And my boobs?” I teased. But still, I was caught by the way he remembered me. I’d had such an impact on him that he thought about me, too?
“There’s no way to get these babies out of my mind.” Ryan murmured as he rasped his cheek against my hard nipple again. Then he finally stopped teasing me and gave what I craved. He captured the tip of my breast in his mouth and suckled hard.
And I melted. I think I groaned or something. I know I burrowed a hand into his hair and held him against me. Like I was afraid he’d try to get away.
Ryan pulled back—as much as my greedy hands would let him—and blew gently on my wet nipple before turning his head and laving attention on my other, poor, neglected tip.
I closed my eyes and let my head fall back as the sensations shrouded me. I wanted more. I wanted deeper. I wanted him all. My thighs clenched and I was seconds away from my second orgasm of the night when Ryan pulled away with a groan.
“Shit, beautiful.” His breath was warm against my shoulder. “You keep grinding on me like that and this show is gonna be over before I even get out of my pants.”

RELEASE BLITZ: “Happily Ever His” by Delancey Stewart

August 15, 2019 Leave a Comment

Title: Happily Ever His
Series: Movie Stars in Maryland Duet #1
Author: Delancey Stewart
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Release Date: August 15, 2019

Blurb

Tess was used to being in the shadows. But when movie star Ryan McDonnell pulls her into the spotlight, her whole world is threatened. Can a relationship that starts as a secret fantasy ever survive in the real world?

My sister Juliet has always gotten everything she wants.

It’s fine though. I never wanted the spotlight. That was my sister’s domain. And now that she’s America’s most popular starlet? She can have it.

But when Gran—the feisty woman who raised us, and who I cannot seem to wean off video games, an afternoon doobie, or her daily Manhattan—has a huge party to celebrate her 90th birthday, Juliet brings the Hollywood madness straight to Maryland.

In the form of my ultimate movie-star crush, Ryan McDonnell. I can barely form a sentence around the guy (at least I don’t still have a poster of him on my wall). And I definitely can’t get over the fact that he’s Juliet’s new boyfriend.

I just need to get through the weekend with them—and with the magazine people who are covering them and the party for a feature. I just need to stay away from Ryan and his warm curious eyes, his perfectly chiseled arms, and the impossibly sexy things that come out of his mouth when we’re alone together.

It’s only one weekend, and I just need to remember that Ryan is an actor. A good one. Because I almost believe him when he tells me we have a chance together.

Excerpt

TESS:

My sister slid from the back seat of the car looking every bit the movie star she was. I hoped everything was going to meet her standards. The security guys had looked around the property for God-only-knew what, and asked me questions about our alarm system (nonexistent), our security perimeter (also nonexistent) and our emergency evacuation CONOPS (seriously? Once they explained what a “CONOPS” was—a concept of operations, in case you’re wondering—I explained that was also nonexistent).
My big sister Juliet lived in a world I could barely begin to understand, where movie stars were people you actually knew. People like Ryan McDonnell.
Sigh. Deep, lovelorn sigh.
My sister had never really belonged here, and she didn’t fit in any better now, with her huge dark glasses and slim-fitted pink capris and high-heeled sandals. The second I saw her, I felt myself inching toward invisibility again. I loved her, but my life worked better when Juliet wasn’t standing at my side, begging the world to wonder how two sisters could be so different.
I pushed down my own insecurities and smiled at her.
“You look great,” I told her. It was true. She always looked great.
“Hey,” she said in that breathy voice she’d become famous for. She pulled me into a tight hug, smiled at me, and then took a step back, ducking her chin a tiny bit as she said, “I want to introduce you to someone.”
A pair of long jean-clad legs slid out of the car behind her, attached to a broad tall body that I already knew too well was Ryan McDonnell. I was more than familiar with this particular ‘someone.’ He’d been my on-screen crush forever, though I hadn’t seen him in anything lately. There had been a movie I hadn’t seen—one that hadn’t done too well, but it included zombies, which were not my thing, even if you added in Ryan McDonnell hotness.
The object of my movie star affections had bright blue eyes, perfectly tousled dark hair—cropped close now, I noticed—and a body that appeared to have been carved from stone, or so I’d thought in the last role I’d seen him in as a comic book hero reimagined as a dark avenger. God, he was hot.
“Tess?” My sister’s voice cut through my stupor.
“Sorry,” I said, shaking off the dreamy haze. “Yes.”
“Yes?” He asked me, a smile spreading slowly across the perfect lips I couldn’t stop staring at. He chuckled, and I realized he hadn’t asked me a question. Embarrassment surged inside me, making my stomach churn.
“No,” I said, covering my affirmative declaration with an equally unnecessary negative word. “Or, I … um, hello.”
“I apologize for the short notice,” Ryan said letting my idiocy slide. People probably acted like loons around him all the time. I tried not to look at him, but there were parts of my body that were not listening at all to my brain. Ryan’s smile was like a speeding train coming right at me and freezing me to the spot where I stood, stupid and dazed. “I hope it’s not an inconvenience having us both here,” he said.
I watched his perfect full lips as he spoke, almost unable to process the actual words. I was having trouble being human, thanks to his actual existence right in front of me.
“Sure,” I said, my voice higher than I remembered it being.
More answering questions no one asked. My sister was smiling at me, shaking her head. Juliet knew about my long-time Ryan McDonnell affliction, and it was pretty obvious at this point. I hated that she undoubtedly knew I was flustered just trying to form actual words around her new boyfriend.
I forced myself back to sanity.
“Can I help get your things?” I had no idea if it would be weird to acknowledge his status as my favorite actor or if it was rude to pretend I had no idea who he was.
I settled for a moronic silence on the topic.
Juliet put her arm around me. “You don’t need to get the bags,” she said lightly, as two of the men from her security team emerged from a second car, all black T-shirts and muscled arms pulling suitcases from the trunk.
Of course not. My sister had people for that.
