Why Sharing What You Read Is A Good Thing

January 10, 2012 6 Comments

Books are meant to be read, right?

Well, a few months ago I joined a website called Goodreads.com, but I never realized how cool it was, until now that I’m a reviewer.  (Shelfari is also a similar website.)  I use Goodreads which is a great way to share the books you’re reading with friends, make new friends, introduce yourself to new books.  It’s also keeps track with what you’ve read, want to read, and are currently reading.  I’ve also had a friend who started a group on Facebook for readers.  We share what books we’ve read.  Through this outlet, I’ve also found several books that I want to read.

So for your readers, I have some questions:

  • How do you keep track of your books you have read, want to read, and are reading?
  • Do you share these books with others, and if so, how?
  • Have you started a group of your own, or even a book club?
  • Do you have your own idea(s) about sharing books with your friends or family members?
  • Are you on Goodreads or Shelfari?  If so, find me on Goodreads at MrsAnderson1212!

I’ve been on Goodreads for some time, but haven’t added very many of the books I’ve read there yet. I’m trying to get in the habit of adding them when I start a new one. I usually am reading several books at once, mixed with fiction, and non-fiction, research for my writing, poetry, etc. I’m trying to review most of these books as well, when I have time, but I’m behind on those right now too. I’ve wanted to keep a database of books I’ve read, and books I own, but I’ve never had the time to do it, as it would be quite a list. I always recommend books I’ve enjoyed to friends and family. Also, I sent you a friend request on Goodreads, so see you there!

    Hi!
I am on Goodreads as well (thanks for the friend request yesterday :)). I just joined there, so I keep adding books I´ve read and try to write some sentences too.
About a year ago I started a book journal (from Moleskin), writing down some thoughts about the books I read, when I read them, …
I´d love to try writing a bookblog sometime, but that means, I do need to decide on a language – and I read mostly in english, but my mothertongue is german. So I´m better with writing reviews in german, but I love writing in english as well – dilemma!
