The genre is defined, it seems, on the one hand by erotic romance that avoids hardcore sex, taboos and fetishes; and on the other hand, defined by hardcore, messy and extreme sex with little regard to writing, story, or emotion.

Chapter 1

Looking at the Bradley brothers was like staring into the sun.

A beautiful, blue-eyed sun, so big and bright the sight hurt a lit- tle, but Anna still studied them with a sharp eye as they buzzed around the check-in area.

They were all tall, hair the color of rich coffee, and in the kind of rugged shape that came from working in the mountains. The family photo on the resort’s website didn’t do them justice, especially not the rakish-looking one in the corner.

He was more like a sun god.

A sun god, sent to whisk a weary traveler like her away from the ever-tightening grip of big-city reality. Pamper her with luxury and cater to her every whim and wish.

Good Lord, she was word-vomiting in ad copy.

Her brain whirred on high-speed work mode when she was sup- posed to be checking into the Honeywilde Inn and Resort to relax and recover.

Her therapist was right. The time had come. She either took a break or had another breakdown. The choice was hers.

“You’ll be in Cabin Five,” one of the other Bradley brothers said. His shiny name badge announced him as Roark Bradley, General Manager. “Trevor will show you the way up. Cabin Five sits at the highest point on the property.” He turned to who she guessed was the youngest of the three. “Trev, take my truck and have Ms. Martel fol- low you. Five can be tricky to find until you know your way around.” While he murmured to Trevor about offering to help with her lug- gage and watching the steep bend in the last turn, the third brother stepped out of his corner.

Devlin Bradley, Hospitality Manager, his name badge read.

Devil Bradley might be more fitting.

The slow, sly drag of his gaze up her body, from the tips of her toes to the sunglasses stuck on her head, would be lewd if he didn’t look so adorable trying to hide it.

Arms crossed over his body, he leaned against the reception desk and scratched along his temple, checking her out around the side of his hand and in between his fingers.

Smooth.

All of this, she noticed from the corner of her eyes because she was not checking him out too. But, if she were checking him out, she’d say he was easily the handsomest of the three.

No, handsome wasn’t right. His brother, the manager, was hand- some.

Devlin was sexy.

Tall and filled out, he was still a little leaner than his brothers. His dark hair was too long on top to be considered professional, eyes hooded like he’d recently woken from a post-sex nap, and a jawline that’d make any model jealous. Broody, in a classic James Dean sense, but with a hint of boyish charm.

He was the type they hired to advertise trendy clothing lines, and she was half tempted to call her office and let them know.

But she was not working right now. She was supposed to be on vacation.

Just a woman, on vacation, admiring a good-looking guy as he proceeded to fake cough so she’d look in his direction.

Anna pinched her lips together to keep from smiling.

Devlin was tempting, no doubt a handful, and she couldn’t deal with any of that at the moment.

Taking a break from her burgeoning career, leaving her job in the lurch, that was enough to handle. Following her therapist’s advice of rest, recovery, and “participating in the process of grief ” would likely prove too much.

She had no room in her vacation for blue-eyed devils, she sucked at relaxing, and the process of grief could take a flying leap off this mountain.

“Are you all set, ma’am?” The youngest Bradley straight up ma’am-ed her as he walked by.

Fantastic.

“Mom,” nine-year-old Burke shouted, “get back, you’re in the battle zone.”

“Cease fire.” Brad appeared from behind a chair and waved his arms. “Hi honey. Feeling better?”

“A little. What time is it?”

“About three,” Brady answered, stepping in from the hallway, “Dad kept us quiet all morning.”

“I asked to play sock war,” Bodie said, his voice barely higher than a peep. “Dad and me are a team.”

Monica moved to where Bodie sat and joined him on the couch. “Are you winning?”

“I think so,” Bodie replied, pointing to an arsenal of socks.

These moments made Monica’s life. Her sons enjoying each other, laughter rising throughout her home. Getting drunk last night was an escape, but she couldn’t escape her obligations. She didn’t want to. God blessed her with four sons to love and guide into manhood.

She soaked in their faces, sweaty and innocent. How could she steal this life from them? Monica would never forget what Brad had done. Still, she had to find a way to forgive him and make their family whole again. Her sons’ childhood depended on that.

My Review: I’ve always been intrigued by books where affairs take place, curious where the author would take the characters, along with what the “excuse” would be, which is one reason I decided to review this book.

It started off quickly, and I found myself widening my eyes at some parts, blushing at others, all while Lindsey struggled to find herself. I’m thirty-five, have been married for almost seven years, and though I don’t condone extramarital affairs, I felt that I could relate to Lindsey because I think all she really wanted was a spark put back into her marriage, and for someone to see her in a new light (as a mother of two, who’s getting older). Some might think she was weak (which, yes, she did have), but I thought she was strong, considering the situations she was in.

I don’t want to give away anything, but I came away satisfied with the ending.

Writing about affairs can be very difficult, but I really enjoyed this quick and sexy read. I recommend this book to any woman who is on their own journey to finding themselves.

I give “Secrets of the Suburbs” 5 stars!

My Review: I’ve been wanting to read “Dating for Decades” since it came out in June and after dealing with some personal family matters for the past few months, it was the perfect read to keep my mind distracted.

For a woman worried about turning the big 4-0, she acted much younger, similar to a young child who just wanted to be loved. While there is a back story about Cassie’s past and why she is how she is, it’s something she desperately wants to forget (sorry, no spoilers), I sympathised with her because nobody should go through what she had, and was content as to how she gets closure.

As for Cassie’s two main love interests, I liked them both, and they stood out in their way when they were with Cassie. While Lucas is much younger than her, he came across sarcastic, yet smooth, which made me like him–something that only a few authors can do well. Then there’s Keith…((swoon)). I won’t say who what happens in the end, but I was very pleased and even had tears in my eyes.

My only problem with the book is why she was so against marriage, even at the end.

Overall, no matter how old you are, I’m confident you will love this witty, relatable, romantic and delightfully fun page-turner.

I give “Dating for Decades” 5 stars.
